FSCDR is having 2 huge events Mon, Feb 13th at the Adrienne Arsht Center kicked off with An Afternoon with Southern Soiree featuring a LIVE cooking demo with celebrity chefs Jernard Wells of Food Network, Gina Neely and Chef Rome and later that night is a speaking engagement and book signing with Deepak Chopra. The mission of Lanetta Bronté, MD, MPH, MSPH – Executive Director/Founder of FSCDR is to raise the awareness of Sickle Cell Disease to the same level as Breast Cancer, HIV/AIDS and other highly promoted diseases. FSCDR is the nation’s ONLY standalone comprehensive outpatient center completely devoted to sickle cell care and services. Coincidentally, South Florida has the highest number of people living with Sickle Cell Disease in the entire country. 1 in 396 African-Americans in the USA have Sickle Cell Disease with 1 of 12 African-Americans carrying the Sickle Cell Trait. There is no other disease that affects African-Americans more than Sickle Cell Disease but unfortunately very little is known about the disease or the trait.
