According to reports, the Food Network is ending its professional relationship with Paula Deen when her contract expires at the end of June. This comes after Deen admitted in a deposition that she used racial slurs. Paula Deen has released a YouTube video apologizing for her offensive remarks and using the n-word, among other racist statements. See the scoop below.
Deen is accused of using the N-word as part of a $1.2 million harassment lawsuit brought by a white former employee, Lisa Jackson, who alleges Deen routinely exposed her to sexual harassment and racist slurs, including a party-planning meeting during which Deen reportedly said:
“What I would really like is a bunch of little n******s to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties. Now, that would be a true Southern wedding, wouldn’t it?”
Although Deen says she is not racist, she received a lot of backlash and lost the support of where she began her career – The Food Network.
Deen uploaded an apology video saying, “I want people to understand that my family and I are not the kind of people that the press is wanting to say we are. I’ve spend the best of 24 years to help myself and others. The color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter…I am here to say I am so sorry.”
Home shopping corporation QVC has announced that are “reviewing [their] business relationship with Ms. Deen” in the wake of this scandal.A rep for the network says they have “concerns [over] the unfortunate Paula Deen situation.” The rep adds, “Please know that QVC does not tolerate discriminatory behavior.”
